A Senate Committee unanimously passes a couple of bills declaring Arizona’s right to not act on Federal government orders. Representative Bob Thorpe’s bill, H-B 2368, says Arizona, as a sovereign state, is not required to heed Justice Department or Executive orders.
Thorpe, a Flagstaff Republican, says one of the more notable examples of constitutional violations includes President Obama’s executive order granting millions of undocumented immigrants a shield from deportation.
H-B 2643, sponsored by Representative Justin Olson, says state resources will not go into the Affordable Health Care act, although Medicaid expansion will be left alone.
The three likely opposing Democrats who sit on the Federalism committee were absent. They involve Senators Ed Ableser, Olivia Cajero-Bedford and David Bradley
The bills now go to the Senate Rules Committee.
