A plea agreement is resolving the case against a Kingman man who reportedly admitted he improperly touched his 14-year-old adopted in April, 2013. The criminal case Against Matthew James McDermott, 37, evolved from the girl’s disclosure at an after school program in downtown Kingman.
Sexual abuse counts are dismissed in the deal that will instead result in an aggravated assault conviction for McDermott. The charge is associated with the girl waking up to discover McDermott “groping her breast” according to the Mohave County attorney’s office.
McDermott will be placed on probation and faces possible county jail time when sentenced April 20 by Superior Court Judge Steve Conn.
