One man has a bang-up time while hiking the trails at South Mountain Saturday afternoon. Sergeant Vince Lewis says a 35-year-old man was shot while hiking in a restricted area of South Mountain Park. He says the man “heard a pop, looked down and realized he was hit.” The hiker is recovering with a minor bullet
wound. Lewis says the area is restricted due to a few gun ranges that are located at the base of the mountain. There are several signs posted along the trails warning hikers not to enter restricted areas. Phoenix police questioned the shooters at the gun ranges and no one saw the hiker.
