Kingman Mayor Monica Gates has scheduled a special Kingman City council meeting regarding a video that has been widely circulated in recent days.

Audio of the video involving council member Travis Lingenfelter is hard to hear, but captions offering a transcription of his comments indicate that he used insensitive language to refer to Hispanics during a child custody exchange with his ex-wife.

Through a Facebook post, Lingenfelter concedes he used a “bad” term, but explained that he was under stress during a “nasty” divorce and was concerned about who might be in the company of his son.

Gates is proposing that the Council pass a resolution proclaiming Kingman to be a racially tolerant community, accepting of diversity in ethnicity. The May 9 council meeting at City Hall starts at 5:30 p.m.
