A Lake Havasu City man faces prosecution for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from his grandmother. An investigation began last December when a bank brought suspicious check and withdrawal activity regarding the account of an 85-year-old woman to the attention of police.
Shawn Hoff, 30, was arrested February 10 for forgery and theft from a vulnerable adult.
A bank investigator told police that she detected forgeries wherein Hoff wrote checks to himself totaling more than $35,000 from his grandmother’s account. The suspicious activity occurred between September and November last year.
A police report noted that Hoff quickly blew a $125,000 life insurance inheritance after his grandfather died last year. Subsequent unauthorized alleged takings from his grandmother sparked the investigation.
