download (1)A field trip for Mohave County supervisors Gary Watson and Jean Bishop. They left their offices Thursday morning for a tour of the Mineral Park mine about twelve miles north of Kingman.

The copper mine was shuttered when Mercator Minerals filed for bankruptcy and the property was sold to Orion. Bishop said she was eager to meet the new owners and look over the property.

Watson said he was interested in learning about what it might take and any timetable there may be to return the mine to limited or full operation. Watson and Bishop also said they hope to avoid a repeat of the Mercator bankruptcy that left the county and secondary districts paid only pennies on the dollar for back taxes.
