Ceremonial aplomb decorated the changing of the elected guard at the November 18 Bullhead City Council meeting. New Mayor Tom Brady and Council members Steve D’Amico and Mickey McClure officially began their terms of office after they were sworn in separately.
After serving as council member or Mayor for the past 13 1/2 years, Jack Hakim passed the leadership baton to Brady.
“I hand you this gavel with expectations that as the leader of this council you continue the progress in moving our city forward,” Hakim said. The exiting mayor said he is proud that hard work by many during his tenure helped Bullhead City overcome negative stigma while invigorating community pride.
Brady thanked and praised Hakim, as well as outgoing council members Sam Medrano and Kathy Bruck for excellence in service, commitment and accomplishment.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to those who are leaving the dias because they’ve served so long and so hard and sacrificed so much,” Brady said. “I’m learning very quickly that this is not an easy job. It requires a lot of time, a lot of effort and a lot of compassion.”
Bruck leaves the Council after eight years while Medrano’s Council run stretched beyond eleven years.
“I want to thank the citizens of Bullhead City for letting me serve them,” Medrano said. “This by far has been my favorite job.”
