Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on the Mt. Trumbull Loop, BLM road 1069, early Thursday (5/25) evening. At about 5:07 p.m., deputies responded to the scene of an injury accident.
Eric Avila was driving the truck with his cousin, Jose Najera as passenger. They are both 17 years old and residents of Utah.
Avila was airlifted by Mercy Air to Dixie Regional Medical Center while Najera was airlifted by Lifeflight to Dixie Regional Medical Center. Avila advised that he was driving approximately 60 miles per hour on a dirt road and he failed to negotiate a curve in the road when he lost control, rolling his vehicle.
The vehicle came to a stop on its roof. Avila was wearing a seatbelt and sustained injuries that consisted of spinal and pelvic fractures. Najera was not wearing a seatbelt when he was ejected about 29 feet from where the vehicle came to rest. Najera sustained critical injuries.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team responded and assisted. The vehicle was towed from the scene. This accident remains under investigation and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
