With word of ISIS threatening terrorist attacks on U.S. soil July fourth weekend, the City of Tempe is taking no chances. Tempe Police Lieutenant Michael Pooley (pictured) says, despite the lack of any credible threats, security will be elevated to ensure holiday festivities stay safe.
Pooley says visitors will notice a significant amount of officers patrolling the streets. That’s not including other law enforcement partners, locally and federally. All together, Pooley says, you’ve got a security force and resources able to confront a crisis.
Pooley estimates about 50-thousand people flocking to the July fourth celebration and fireworks show at Tempe Town Lake. Pooley emphasizes the first line of defense is the public: if you notice something strange, report it to an officer.
