duiMohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Michael Sam Laplaca, 67, of Mohave Valley, early Saturday (4/4) morning for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and DUI, misdemeanors.  At about12:45 a.m., deputies responded to Willow Drive and Highway 95 in reference to a hit and run accident that occurred in the 1500 block of Courtwright Road.  Upon arrival, both parties from the collision were on scene with a Department of Public Safety Officer.  Investigations determined that Laplaca was driving a white Van traveling westbound on Courtwright Road when Laplaca crossed the center line and sideswiped the mirror of a white Truck traveling eastbound.  The victim, a 64-year-old male subject, called authorities while he followed the white Van.  Deputies contacted Laplaca and smelled an odor of alcohol on him.  Deputies observed both vehicles side mirrors were damaged.  Laplaca said that he heard a loud crash and saw him mirror was broken.  Laplaca further said that he assumed a large rock flew up from the road and broke his mirror.  Following the field sobriety tests (FST’s), Laplaca was taken into custody and transported to the Mohave County District II Substation where an analysis revealed his blood alcohol concentration (BAC) to be .072%.  He was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail without incident.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.
