trainmanThe Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a California man who exited a moving train in Seligman. The victim of the incident is identified as Desmond Andrus, of Lakeside, 49. Andrus’ body was spotted about 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 27 in an open field near the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe railroad tracks. Sheriff’s office spokesman Dwight Develyn said analysis of Andrus’ abrasions and other injuries and other circumstances lead investigators to believe he jumped from the train. “Detectives located shoes, papers and a bottle of liquor belonging to the subject near the tracks,” a news release stated. “Andrus’ body was found about 1/2 mile from these items indicating the possibility that he wandered where he landed to where his body was found.” Develyn said the medical examiner concluded that exposure was key in the cause of Andrus’ death. Detectives are working with railroad personnel on other aspects of the death investigation. Members of the public who have information regarding the incident or had recent contact with Andrus are urged to call 928-771-3278.
