State Treasurer Jeff De Wit is urging a “no” vote for Proposition 1-2-3. The Arizona Republican says, the ballot measure to boost school funding will only raise your property taxes and put the State Land Trust, its sole funding mechanism in jeopardy, contrary to supporters’ claims.
Using graphs at a Thursday press conference, De Wit says, with record high tax collections, Arizona already has the money needed to settle a lawsuit over inflation sitting in the State’s General Fund. De Wit tells voters to defeat the measure, and he will offer a new court settlement utilizing that money to close the inflation gap.
1-2-3 supporters argue it will generate more money for schools and raise teacher salaries. Among those stumping for the ballot measure include the Arizona Education Association and Children’s Action Alliance.
The special election for Proposition 1-2-3 is May 17th.
