An hours long standoff at a Tucson Walmart ends with the suspect being taken into custody. Shoppers at the Walmart at East Drexel Road and South Tucson Boulevard called 9-1-1 Monday night reporting a man who was seen rambling and claiming people were trying to kill him, and he kept
walking in and out of a white van.
After mental health negotiators spent hours trying to get him out of the van he was barricaded in, the armed man got into a fight with police, who tased him. They followed up with pepper bombs thrown into the van, and eventually pulled him out of the vehicle. A dog in the van fled and the pet appeared unhurt.
The man, well known to police, will be arrested once he’s out of the hospital. Police confiscated his weapon and ammo. (pictured)
