Authorities said a Kingman man who was wanted for a drug paraphernalia charge was driving a stolen vehicle when Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies tried to perform a violation-related traffic stop on Interstate 40 near Ashfork at about 10:47 a.m. on Monday, March 27.
31-year-old John Freeman reportedly led deputies on a 100 mile-per-hour chase before the suspect vehicle was disabled and crashed near the Bearizona animal park in Williams. Two male subjects were detained but Freeman reportedly fired at least one shot at deputies before fleeing on foot into the forest.
Some 200 patrons were evacuated for the park while officers searched for Freeman. He was located hiding in a culvert and taken into custody about 6:00 p.m.
