Retired Kingman City manager Lou Sorenson recently addressed the Kingman City council, urging that the city become more aggressive in implementing water conservation measures. He said it’s important in the face of increased demand and declining recharge.
Sorenson suggested two approaches, realizing both are not necessarily popular concepts. Sorenson endorsed pursuit of declaration of an Active Management Area (AMA) that would allow greater control of new water use going forward.
Local AMA discussions over the years have never borne fruit as many fear the measure is so restrictive that it would harm business and economic growth potential.
Sorenson said the city should also consider using less water at the Cerbat Cliffs Golf course. Sorenson said it is possible to water the heart of the golf course, but cut back on some of the fairways and greenbelts.
