Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Thomas Edward Sanders, 48, of Golden Valley, early Sunday (10/18) morning for aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and burglary, felonies. Saturday (10/17) evening, at about 6:20 p.m., deputies responded to a weapons offense at a residence in the 5800 block of Davis Road. Upon arrival, deputies contacted a 23-year-old male victim. The victim said that he lives on the property in his fifth-wheel trailer. The victim further said that he arrived home and he was going to his fifth-wheel when Sanders came from behind his fifth-wheel holding a shotgun. The victim reported that Sanders came at him with the barrel pointed at him and the trigger cocked. The victim further reported that he grabbed the shotgun and deflected the barrel up. The victim advised that a shot went off which struck his trailer. The victim further advised that Sanders dropped the shotgun and they started wrestling. The victim said that his right finger got cut as he was wrestling Sanders while Sanders kept trying to stab him with a knife. The victim declined medical attention. The victim further said Sanders eventually dropped the knife and ran into the desert. The victim advised that Sanders must have gotten into his trailer as the shotgun and knife was inside his fifth-wheel. Deputies observed a hole in the side and the roof of his trailer. An immediate ground search and an aerial search were conducted by Kingman Ranger helicopter, Department of Public Safety. Sanders was not located. Early Sunday (10/18) morning, approximately 12:11 a.m., deputies responded to a suspicious male subject hiding under a trailer as reported by a homeowner in the 5600 block of Hoover Road. Upon arrival, deputies were searching the immediate area without locating anyone. During the search, deputies heard a woman scream a couple blocks away. Deputies responded and located Sanders hiding behind a bush near the property of the fifth-wheel trailer in the 5800 block of Davis Road. Sanders was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported and booked into the Mohave County Jail.
Later that morning, Sanders was also charged with theft of means of transportation and burglary, both felonies, relating to a reported delayed burglary on October 5th at a residence in the 5700 block of Laguna Road in Golden Valley. The homeowner, a 76-year-old male victim, reported that his house had been burglarized and many items were stolen including his 2002 Honda Minivan.
On October 3rd, deputies responded to the area of Brook Drive and McNeal Road in reference to a weapons offense. The reporting party advised that Thomas Sanders was driving erratically in a minivan while brandishing a shotgun at another male subject. Upon arrival, deputies contacted Sanders sister at a residence in the 300 block of McNeal Road. Sanders sister said that she was not aware of what happened as she was inside her room. Deputies searched the residence for Sanders without success. Deputies located a Honda minivan on the property near a shed which was later determined to be the reported stolen vehicle.
Late Sunday (10/18) morning, at about 11:45 a.m., deputies contacted inmate Sanders at the Mohave County Jail. Deputies interviewed Sanders regarding the burglary including the auto theft. During conversations with Sanders, he said that he did drive the Honda Minivan to the McNeal address and he did not do the burglary alone. This investigation remains active.
