What’s cookin’ in Phoenix? Eggs outside

So what do you do on a slow news day in Phoenix? Scramble eggs outside, of course.

With temperatures in excess of 115 degrees, the Cronkite News Digital Production Bureau ventured outside to see if it could fry and egg on a metal surface heated only by the sun and air temperature.

After 20 minutes, we had bubbling egg whites and yolk that turned into a mushy scramble. We wouldn’t recommend it for omlettes.

But that’s not all. We also melted some scoops of chocolate ice cream. It took between eight and 10 minutes to melt into a pile of mush.
