WILDFIRE2The Topock fire south of Needles is 50% contained. Authorities said the wet weather has helped prevent spread of the fire that started on the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge early Wednesday morning.

The fire crossed the Colorado River Wednesday and spread rapidly, pushed by strong winds. The fire covers some 2,200 acres.

The team that has been managing the fire hopes to withdraw tomorrow afternoon, leaving local agencies in charge of mop up operations.
