Expect gusty west winds to develop on Friday afternoon across the Mojave Desert. The western portion of the desert at locations like Barstow and Fort Irwin will see stronger winds (40 to 45 mph) than the eastern desert (30 to 40 mph). A wind advisory is in effect for the western portions of the desert Friday afternoon and night. Downslope winds are expected in the lee of the eastern Sierra Friday afternoon and evening. Gusts of 50 mph possible above 5000 feet. There is some potential for the winds to reach the Owens Valley, but the Wind advisory is currently in effect for locations to the west of Highway 395.
