The Greatest Show on Grass” is in full-swing with the first round of The Waste Management Phoenix Open teeing off.  After several rounds of golf, the “Coors LIght Birds Nest” entertainment tent opens for the public to party.  On Saturday, Feb. 6 is “ALL DAY GREEN OUT DAY!”  Spectators and golf enthusiasts are

encouraged to to wear the color green to support the “green-eco-sensitive efforts of the tournament!”

Tournament Chairman Tom King says, “The Green Out has become an annual event celebrating Waste Management’s initiatives both at the tournament and in everyday life,”

For every person who dons the color green, whether it’s Kelly, Mint, Jade, Lime or eye-popping Chartreuse, tournament host Thunderbirds will donate some green to three deserving non-profit organizations.

Throw on a green shirt, pants, hat, or socks and benefit Arizona Recycling Coalition, the Arizona Chapter of Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and Waste Not.

Based on an online voting contest held on the tournament’s Facebook page from November through early January, the charity with the most votes will receive 50 percent of the funds, the second place charity will receive 35 percent and the third place charity will receive 15 percent.

Last year, the “Green Out” raised 60-thousand dollars for three deserving environmental non-profit organizations. The “Green Squad” and the Open’s Fashion Police will be keeping a close eye on the number of people in the green!
